A Simple Treatment for Relief of TMJ
Emface TMJ is a protocol on the Emface platform by BTL. Hands-free applicators rest on the skin over the jaw muscles and deliver two energies at once: radiofrequency, which gently warms the tissue and increases local blood flow, and HIFES® (high-intensity facial electrical stimulation), which produces controlled, rhythmic contractions that fatigue and then relax the overworked muscle. In 2025 the FDA cleared Emface for the treatment of TMJ dysfunction and associated pain, relief of muscle spasm, muscle re-education and the maintenance or improvement of jaw range of motion (FDA clearance announcement).
Because the stimulation works the muscle and then lets it relax, repeated sessions help the masseter and temporalis relearn a calmer resting pattern. The warmth from the radiofrequency supports local blood flow, which is why many patients describe the jaw as looser and less tired after a session.

What to Expect With Emface TMJ
We’ll review your TMJ symptoms, muscle tension patterns and treatment goals to determine whether EMFACE is the right therapeutic fit.
Small applicators are placed on the cheeks and forehead to deliver coordinated RF and HIFES stimulation that gently releases facial tension while strengthening underactive support muscles. Sessions take about 20 minutes.
Many clients experience easier jaw movement, reduced clenching and softer facial tension after just a few sessions. Improvements continue to build as the muscles rebalance and inflammation decreases.

- Notify your provider if you have recent dental work or jaw injury

- Resume all normal activities immediately
- Mild warmth or tingling is normal and fades quickly

- Avoid chewing very hard or sticky foods if your jaw feels sensitive
