What We Treat and How We Think About Each Area
Neuromodulators can address a wide range of facial and functional concerns. Here is how Dr. Alasio approaches each of the areas she treats most commonly.

Forehead lines Horizontal forehead lines form from repeated activation of the frontalis muscle, which lifts the brow. Treating the forehead requires careful calibration: too little and the lines remain; too much and the brow drops, creating a heavy, tired appearance. Dr. Alasio assesses brow position and frontalis strength before treating this area and doses accordingly to maintain natural brow elevation while softening the lines.
Elevens (glabellar lines) The vertical lines between the brows that form from frowning are among the most commonly treated areas — and one where the result has the most impact on overall facial expression. Over-treatment here can flatten the area entirely and look unnatural. Under-treatment leaves lines that bother patients most. Dr. Alasio treats the glabellar complex with attention to the corrugator and procerus muscles individually, achieving softening without the immobility that reads as artificial.
Crow’s feet The fine lines that radiate from the outer corners of the eyes with smiling and squinting are among the earliest signs of facial aging. Because this area is delicate and close to the eye, precise placement matters significantly. Dr. Alasio treats crow’s feet to soften without eliminating the natural movement that makes a smile look genuine.
Brow lift For patients with mild brow descent or heaviness over the upper eyelid, strategic neuromodulator placement can lift the brow without surgery. This is a case-by-case technique, not a standard add-on, and Dr. Alasio evaluates each patient’s brow anatomy and whether they are a candidate before recommending it. When it is appropriate, the result is a more open, refreshed eye area without any incisions or downtime.
Masseters (jaw slimming and TMJ) The masseter muscles at the sides of the jaw can be treated with neuromodulators for two distinct purposes: to slim a wide or square jaw for a more tapered facial contour, and to relieve the symptoms of TMJ disorder including jaw clenching, grinding, and associated headaches. Dr. Alasio assesses jaw anatomy and function before treating this area and discusses both the cosmetic and therapeutic goals with each patient.
Neck (Platysmal bands) Vertical bands in the neck that become more prominent with age and expression can be softened with neuromodulator injections along the platysma muscle, producing a smoother, more refined neck contour. This is an area where dosing precision matters significantly and physician-level anatomical knowledge is essential.

Accessible Aesthetics for Every Patient
Botox is the most requested aesthetic treatment in the world, and also one of the most misunderstood. When it is done well, no one knows you had it. You simply look like yourself — rested, refreshed, and a little more at ease. When it is done poorly, the results are obvious in all the wrong ways.
The difference almost always comes down to the person holding the syringe.
At Intentional Self Aesthetics, Botox and all neuromodulator treatments are performed by Dr. Teresa Alasio, MD — a board-certified physician whose approach to injectable treatment is rooted in clinical training, anatomical knowledge, and a genuine commitment to natural-looking results. This is not a practice where injectables are delegated. Dr. Alasio assesses every patient personally, makes every treatment decision, and performs every injection herself.
If you have been hesitant about Botox because of results you have seen on others — the frozen forehead, the surprised brow, the loss of expression — what you are describing is not what Botox looks like when it is administered with a physician’s precision and a conservative hand. It is what it looks like when it isn’t.

How Dr. Alasio Approaches Every Botox Treatment
No two patients are the same, and no two Botox treatments should be either. Before Dr. Alasio places a single injection, she spends time understanding your face — how it moves, how it has been treated before, and what result you are actually looking for.
The assessment begins with animation.
Dr. Alasio asks every new patient to frown, raise their eyebrows, squint, and smile. Watching the face in motion is how she evaluates the strength and pattern of your muscles, where the dominant movement is, and how your skin responds to expression. A static face tells only part of the story. The dynamic face tells the rest.
Your history matters.
How long have you been receiving neuromodulator treatments? What products have you had before? What results did you love, and what didn’t work the way you hoped? Have you ever felt frozen when you wanted movement? These questions shape the entire treatment plan. A patient receiving Botox for the first time needs a different approach than someone who has been treated for ten years and wants to refine their results.
What do you actually want?
Most patients want movement, not immobility. They want to be able to raise their eyebrows, smile naturally, and express themselves — just without the lines that have started to bother them. Dr. Alasio asks directly: do you want subtle softening or more significant relaxation? Lower face? Neck? This conversation happens before treatment, not after.
Conservative dosing, always.
Dr. Alasio starts with a conservative dose and invites every patient back at two weeks for a follow-up assessment. If more is needed, it can be added at that visit. What cannot be done is taken away. This approach protects patients from the over-treatment that creates the results they came here specifically to avoid, and it ensures that the final outcome is exactly right for your face and your goals.
Choosing the right neuromodulator.
At Intentional Self Aesthetics, Dr. Alasio uses Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin. Each has distinct molecular characteristics and spreading behavior, and the right choice depends on the patient. Dr. Alasio’s primary clinical experience is with Botox, which she uses as her standard. Dysport is available for patients who prefer it or have had better results with it in the past. Xeomin, which contains no accessory proteins, is an option for patients who have shown resistance to Botox over time. These are clinical decisions made in the context of your specific history and anatomy — not a menu selection.

Wrinkle Relaxer Care Instructions
One benefit of wrinkle relaxers is that there is minimal preparation and recovery needed with your treatment. Still, there are some simple steps to follow that can help you get the absolute best results from Botox in New Canaan.
Pre-Care Instructions
- Hydrate well in the weeks leading up to your appointment.
- Avoid alcohol, NSAIDs, and other blood-thinning medicines before your session. These can limit your results.
- Stop using harsh exfoliating products, waxing, chemical peels, and tweezing to minimize any skin damage that may cause complications from your treatment.
Post-Care Instructions
- Refrain from any compression on the treatment area, such as hats, massages, or facials. These things can inhibit your results.
- Avoid any unnecessary physical exertion or exercise for several days after treatment.
- Stop any alcohol use, NSAIDs, and other blood-thinning medications for several days while the wrinkle relaxers work across your face.

I LOVE Intentional Self Aesthetics! Dr. Alessio and her team are kind, helpful, and very knowledgeable with great bedside manners. I received my very first chemical peel from them. Holly and Dr. Teresa listened to my concerns and answered all of my "what if" questions with patience and kindness. The results of my peel were fantastic. I received many compliments on my skin -- people said I was glowing, that I looked great or beautiful, etc. And no, I didn't ask for those compliments -- they were freely given! :D Intentional Self Aesthetics is where I will be receiving all of my medical beauty treatments here on out. Thank you to the wonderful team!
