Can You Get Filler While Pregnant?

Can I get filler while pregnant?

No. I do not perform filler, Botox, or most aesthetic injectables on pregnant or breastfeeding patients. There is not enough safety data in this population, and I would rather be conservative than take on unnecessary risk during pregnancy. If you are planning to conceive soon, this is worth discussing at your consult so we can plan timing around it.

Why the answer is no rather than “probably fine”

Pregnant and breastfeeding patients are routinely excluded from the clinical trials that got these products approved, which means there is no real safety data to point to either way. That is different from having data that shows a specific risk. It simply means nobody knows, and I am not willing to treat that unknown as a green light. Hyaluronic acid itself occurs naturally in the body, but the injection process, potential for bruising and swelling, and even the anxiety some patients feel about a needle are all things I would rather you not deal with during pregnancy, on top of everything else your body is managing.

What this means for timing

If you are planning to conceive, I would rather see you for filler well before you start trying, understanding that most HA filler will still be present, though gradually softening, by the time you conceive. If you are currently pregnant, we simply wait. Once you are done breastfeeding, there is no medical reason to wait further, and many of my patients come in for a refresh once they are cleared and settled into their new routine.

What you can still do during pregnancy

Pregnancy does not mean doing nothing. Many of my patients continue with medical-grade skincare, appropriate facials, and other non-injectable treatments during pregnancy, though I always screen any product or device recommendation against pregnancy safety first. This is a good time to focus on skin health and hydration rather than volume or muscle relaxation, and we can absolutely put together a plan for that in the meantime.

A note on timing your postpartum appointment

I do not have a strict calendar rule for when it is “allowed” again after birth or after stopping breastfeeding, since every patient’s recovery and feeding timeline is different. What I ask is that we talk it through together, since factors like a C-section recovery, sleep, and stress levels can all affect how your face has changed and what actually makes sense for your first appointment back.
