I See a Lot of My Friends Look Overdone With Fillers. Will Fillers Make Me Look Overdone?
By Teresa Alasio, MD | Intentional Self Aesthetics, New Canaan, CT
No, not when they are placed correctly, in the right amount, for the right reasons, by someone with genuine anatomical knowledge.
What you are seeing in your friends is almost certainly the result of overfilling, filler placed in the wrong anatomical location, or both. Filler that migrates, accumulates over multiple sessions without assessment, or is placed by someone who doesn’t fully understand facial anatomy can create the pillow face, duck lip, or overfilled cheek look that has unfortunately become associated with aesthetic medicine in popular culture. It is not what filler looks like when it is done well.
Done well, filler is invisible. You see a person who looks rested, a little more defined, a little more like themselves. You don’t see the filler. That is the goal.
At Intentional Self Aesthetics, I approach filler with a physician’s understanding of facial anatomy, the fat compartments, the ligaments, the bone structure, the way volume shifts with age. I treat conservatively and intentionally. I also review your existing filler history and assess what’s already present before adding anything new, because understanding what’s there is just as important as knowing what to add.
If you have concerns about a specific look you want to avoid, bring a photo to your consultation. That conversation is exactly what the consultation is for.
