What Can I Expect at My First Appointment at a Medspa?
By Teresa Alasio, MD | Intentional Self Aesthetics, New Canaan, CT
At Intentional Self Aesthetics, your first appointment is a medical consultation, and that distinction matters.
Before we discuss any treatment, I will review your health history, current medications, and any previous aesthetic treatments you’ve had. This isn’t a formality. Your health history directly informs which treatments are appropriate for you, how your skin and body will respond, and what realistic outcomes look like. Patients are often surprised by the depth of this conversation, and almost universally, they find it reassuring.
From there, I will evaluate your skin and anatomy, listen to your concerns and goals, and offer my honest clinical perspective on what will actually address what you’re seeing. I will explain my reasoning, walk you through the options, and give you a clear picture of what each treatment involves, including timeline, number of sessions, and realistic expectations for results.
You will never feel pressured. The goal of your first appointment is not to sell you a service. It is to give you the information you need to make a confident, informed decision about your own care.
Depending on your consultation, some treatments can be performed the same day if you choose to proceed. Others may be scheduled for a follow-up appointment.
Come as you are. Arrive with a clean face if possible, but don’t stress if that’s not practical. The most important thing you can bring is your questions. We want to answer all of them.
